Interactive web application for special student applicants in one of the following categories.
You may use this application if:
- You are a special student who:
- is a United States citizen or
- is a U.S. permanent resident or
- has been granted U.S. refugee/political asylum status
The special student classification is reserved for students who want to take courses for credit
but are not currently working toward a degree at UW-Green Bay. Credits earned as a special
student will be recorded on an official university transcript. If, at a later date, you
decide to pursue a degree at UW-Green Bay, you will need to re-apply as a degree-seeking student.
Credits earned as a special student may be applied toward a degree at UW-Green Bay.
Registration
Special students register for classes after degree-seeking students. The Registrar's Office prepares
a schedule prior to each semester that includes the date when special students may begin registration.
Consult the Schedule of Classes for appropriate dates. Because of enrollment limits, special students may be
limited in the number of courses for which they may register in a given semester. Consult the current
Schedule of Classes to see if limits are currently in effect. The Schedule of Classes is available on-line at
www.uwgb.edu/sis.
At this page click on "View Course Info" and follow the directions.
Registration for Credit Outreach courses
Credit Outreach students do not fill out the special student application.
Credit Outreach students apply and register
directly from the Outreach website listed below.
Special students register for Credit Outreach courses throughout the
year. Most of these courses are designed for teachers and administrators, and taught off-campus.
They do not follow the standard semester or summer session calendar. The current schedule of courses
for educators is available online at www.uwgb.edu/outreach/educ.
Financial Aid
As a special student you are not eligible for most financial aid programs. Please check with the
Financial Aid Office regarding your current eligibility.
Teaching Certification
If you are seeking certification for the first time or in a new field, do not use the special student
application. You must apply as a degree-seeking student and you may use the
UW System Electronic Application for Undergraduate Admission.
Prerequisite Policy
Some UW-Green Bay courses have prerequisites. Prerequisites indicate the minimum level of proficiency
or background knowledge needed for successful achievement of the course objectives. Students who have not
fulfilled required course prerequisites will not be allowed to enroll in that course. Since special
students will not have credit evaluations, no prior course work will be recorded and prerequisites will
not be met. Exceptions to prerequisites may be made by the course instructor or the instructional unit
chairperson, but the student is responsible for seeking approval of exceptions before enrolling in the course.
